The Illusion of Success

Posted on 13/01/202410/07/2026 By Reedz

Assalamu’alaikum dear brothers and sisters,

It’s been a moment since I last poured my thoughts onto this digital canvas. So today, I am somehow compelled  to talk about something profound yet often overlooked – Istidraj.

In the hustle and bustle of our daily grind, caught up in the whirlwind of social media, it’s easy to overlook the deeper currents flowing beneath our lives. Istidraj, an Islamic concept, is one such current that deserves our attention. It refers to the gradual decline of a person’s spiritual state, often masked by worldly success or pleasures. It’s like being on a boat that’s slowly drifting away from the shore; everything seems calm and peaceful, but before you know it, you’re lost at sea.

Think about it – we’re in an era where success is often measured by likes, follows, and the materialistic benchmarks we achieve. But in this digital age of instant gratification, what happens to our spiritual well-being? #Istidraj is a reminder that not all that glitters is gold. We might be making leaps and bounds in the material world, but are we advancing spiritually?

This year, I’ve seen a lot, both in my personal journey and in the lives around me. It’s striking how easy it is to be caught up in the illusion of progress while spiritually, we might be regressing. That’s the tricky nature of Istidraj. It’s not about the blessings we receive; it’s about how we handle them. Are they bringing us closer to Allah SWT, or are they pulling us away?

Remember, the ultimate measure of success is not in our bank accounts or our social media followers. It’s in the strength of our connection with the Creator. In my own life, I’ve experienced moments when I’ve been too caught up in the world, thinking I was on the right track because everything was going smoothly. But deep down, something felt off. The compass of my heart wasn’t pointing towards what truly mattered.

Brothers and sisters, let’s not be deceived by the glitter of the world. The most beautiful Instagram feed is not a reflection of one’s spiritual state. We need to constantly check in with ourselves, our intentions, and our relationship with Allah SWT. Are we using our blessings to grow spiritually or are they becoming a veil between us and our Creator?

I don’t claim to have all the answers, but one thing I know for sure is the importance of humility, self-reflection, and constant striving for spiritual betterment. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being aware and making efforts to stay on the right path.

As we move forward in our lives, let’s make it a point to reflect on our spiritual health as much as we do on our physical and social well-being. May Allah SWT guide us and protect us from the subtle dangers of Istidraj.

Let’s continue to support each other in this journey and remind ourselves that the true success is in winning the favor of Allah SWT.

Until next time, stay blessed and keep striving for the real success.

Ma’assalama

Reflections from My First Umrah

Posted on 04/12/202411/07/2026

Alhamdulillah, we’re home. Safe, tired, and honestly still trying to process everything that happened over there. I sat down a few times to write this and kept deleting what I’d written because it felt too neat, too polished for what was actually a messy, overwhelming, beautiful few weeks. So here’s…
