Six ways you can curb people-pleasing

Posted on 01/03/202317/02/2023 By Reedz

Being a people pleaser can be a difficult habit to break, but here are some tips to help you stop:

  1. Identify your values and priorities: Understand what is important to you and what your boundaries are. This will help you say no when something goes against your values or priorities.
  2. Practice self-care: Take care of yourself and prioritize your needs. This can include setting aside time for yourself, exercising, eating well, and getting enough rest.
  3. Learn to say no: Saying no can be difficult, especially if you are used to saying yes to everything. Start small by saying no to small requests and work your way up to bigger ones.
  4. Communicate your needs: Be clear about your needs and expectations in your relationships. This can help prevent others from taking advantage of you or assuming that you will always say yes.
  5. Let go of the need for approval: Remember that you don’t need to please everyone to be liked or accepted. Focus on being true to yourself and living in alignment with your values.
  6. Be aware of your thoughts and emotions: Notice when you feel pressured to please others and identify the thoughts and emotions that are driving that behavior. Try to reframe those thoughts and practice self-compassion.

Remember that breaking the habit of people pleasing takes time and practice. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way.
