Hishamuddin Hj Hussin was crowned Brunei’s strongest man after completing a Herculean feat.

The country’s new champion set the bar high in the finals of Brunei’s Strongest Man with 35 points accumulated in three categories – tyre flipping, dumbbell lifting and truck pulling – at Taman Sir Haji Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the heart of the capital.

The finalists had to flip tyres weighing 280kg, lift dumbbells of 80kg each and pull a truck amidst the morning heat.

Hishamuddin’s feat won him $7,000, a getaway at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, an AirAsia ticket to Kuala Lumpur, a hamper, one 32-inch television, two electronic appliances, a set of B-Mobile phones with a line and recharge card, a Seri Lembayung voucher, Red Bull drinks as well as a certificate and a trophy.

Giving away the prizes was Pg Abd Rahman bin PSI Pg Hj Ismail, Chairman of Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board, who is also the guest of honour.

Farizus Lakong won the second place with a score of 32. Mahdini Hj Damit was in third place with 28 points.

The seven other finalists were Hadi Dinie (25 points), Mr Jacko (22 points), Hj Mohd Hourri Shahwana (21 points), Hj Mohd Harzuna Hj Ismail (19 points), Md Khairi Abd Salah (18 points) Bob Rizal Hj Omarali (15 points) and Pg Roslannie Pg Hj Jumat (15 points).

The Brunei’s Strongest Man competition, which returned for the fourth time this year, was organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department to mark the 41st anniversary of the renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan.
