Walk Run Cycle raises 107k!

Posted on 05/06/201122/01/2013 By Reedz

From Borneo Bulletin:

This year’s recently concluded WalkRunCycle (WRC) charity event organised by HSBC Brunei had raised funds totalling B$107,364.

This was revealed by Lim Boon Teck, Manager Corporate Sustainability, HSBC Brunei during an appreciation dinner held at I-Lotus in Rimba yesterday evening.

The event also saw the auctioning of two bicycles, which raised B$1,000 to be contributed to charitable institutions. Sheikh Hj Khalid of Serikandi won the bid for the bikes, and proceeds from the auction were included in the total donations received for WalkRunCycle.

The idea behind the auction came from two local bloggers – Reeda from anakbrunei.org and Rano from ranoadidas.com. The bikes were used by DJ Hum and DJ Jenny during the charity event.

The donations were divided equally and presented to three institutions, namely Pusat Ehsan, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat (KACA) and SMARTER Brunei. Each institution received B$35,788.

Among those present at the dinner were Vincent Ho, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Brunei; Rosdi Amin Yaakub, the bank’s Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Banking; and Dk Hamidah Pg Hj Othman, Acting Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management.

Also present were Malai Haji Abdullah, President of SMARTER Brunei; Hj Abdul Alim Othman, Managing Director of KACA Centre; Awg Hj Abdul Hamid bin Maaruf, Head of Administration of Pusat Ehsan; Reeda Malik of anakbrunei.org; DJ Hum and DJ Jenny of Kristal FM; Sheikh Hj Khalid and spouse; and some 120 HSBC volunteers.

According to Mr Lim Boon Teck, despite the rain, WalkRunCycle "exceeds all our expectations" based on the number of registrations, which was close to 2,500.

In this context, Mr Lim on behalf of organisers thanked members of the whole Brunei community who had participated in the event.

"We are looking forward to the next event in 2012, which will be bigger and better!" he said.

Sheikh Hj Khalid, meanwhile, told the Weekend Bulletin that the bikes would be "re-auctioned" for charity. More details about the auction will be revealed soon, he added.

Thank you all for such an over-whelming response to the calendar project. Thanks to fellow bloggers Jewelle, Kantalensa, amieheidi, roses, Nonnie, Zadm, Bahapakitani, and R&al who mentioned it in their blogs. Hopefully more will do the same for this worthwhile cause. I am aiming to sell 1,000 pieces of this…
