An afternoon at Butra HeidelbergCement

Posted on 04/01/201113/05/2026 By Reedz

Have you ever wondered what a cement manufacturing plant looks like and how it works? Well, I did, and out of curiosity, a couple of weeks ago, I tagged along with Jan Shim and his crew who were doing a professional shoot at a cement plant in Serasa.

Butra HeidelbergCement was established in November 1993 when a group of Bruneian entrepreneurs sought to establish the first and only cement manufacturing plant in the country. The first commercial production began in June 1996.

The establishment of the cement plant ensured a steady supply of high quality cement with competitive market price and better quality control. It also created employment for local Bruneians.

Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd is 70% German owned (HeidelbergCement Group) and 30% locally owned by P.J. Corporation Sdn Bhd.

HeidelbergCement Group of Germany is a global market leader in aggregates and a prominent player in the fields of cement, concrete and other downstream activities making it one of the world’s largest manufacturers of building materials. The HeidelbergCement Group employs some 57,000 people at 2,600 locations in around 40 countries.
