Get Ready for Battle Royale 2014 Posted on 16/10/201413/05/2019 By Reedz On Saturday October 18, 2014 and Sunday October 19, 2014 athletes from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Indonesia will gather at the Multipurpose Hall of the National Stadium for Battle Royale, hosted by GETFIT CrossFit. Brunei’s first CrossFit affiliate, GETFIT CrossFit, will be hosting 80 athletes from over 10 CrossFit affiliates at Battle Royale 2014. Battle Royale is GETFIT CrossFit’s annual competition based on CrossFit movements. Much like the CrossFit Asia Regionals, their aim is to provide a platform for local crossfitters, athletes and fitness enthusiasts to challenge and test themselves through competition. The competition will start at 8:00am until 5:00pm on both days. GETFIT CrossFit are also extremely proud to introduce the new logo for Battle Royale. The logo consists of two ancient weapons; a “Kelasak” and two “Kampilan”. “These weapons are proudly held by officers of the Royal Regalia of our beloved Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Both are symbols of perfection of our country’s customs and tradition which date back to before the 7th century. We have always been inspired by our culture to strive to beat the odds whatever they may be, and this logo reminds us that every athlete had to start from somewhere,” said Coach Sekhon, Head Coach, GETFIT CrossFit. GETFIT CrossFit has been working around the clock preparing for this weekend’s event. “I am most looking forward to seeing the athletes in action!” said Coach Sekhon. When asked why the general public should come and spectate, he replied: “There is a lot of hidden talent in Brunei. You would be surprised to know what they are capable of! People are always going outside of the country to compete in fitness events. This is one where regional athletes are coming over to Brunei (some for the first time) to compete with us.” “We are proud to host Battle Royale for all, and we will do our best to put on an amazing show for the general public. Also, the Brunei Calisthenics Group will be showcasing their talents in a demo on Sunday October 19, 2014 at 12:30pm. They are incredible in what they can do on a pull up bar!” A number of local CrossFit athletes were interviewed about Battle Royale and what they were looking forward to: “The challenge and fun,” Nizam Bakar, graduate development trainee; “Meeting my CrossFit friends and challenging each other,” Noi Harun, quantity surveyor; “The competition – against others and myself,” Delwin Keasberry, commercial manager; “Meeting new and old friends from Brunei and beyond, and to challenging my fitness,” Boon Chu Woo, medical scientist; “To another excellent event; where people can showcase their abilities and fitness. Also, to see how far they have come from the event in 2013. It should be great for both competitors and spectators alike,” Mas Idris, IT executive director; “Competition is tough this year. I am looking forward to give my best, and most importantly to enjoy every moment of it,” Amalina Abdullah, crossfitter. What is CrossFit?
