More than 30 million Golf models have been sold since the car went on sale in May 1974 in Europe. Seven generations later, the successful formula remains the same: crisp, elegant styling; space-efficient packaging; frugal yet powerful engines; and entertaining front-wheel-drive handling.
Highly efficient and at the same time low in emissions: Volkswagen wrote a new chapter in the history of petrol power units with the introduction of the TSI engines, which have caused quite a stir over the last few years.
Now a new 1.2 TSI joins the line-up. With this new engine, Volkswagen continues this intelligent downsizing and transfers new forward-looking TSI technology to even smaller displacements.
Another dimension has been added to the Golf family with the launch of the new Golf TSI. This new model takes all the established strengths of the Golf and places them in an amazingly cost-effective package of only BND$29,500.
The key to the new Golf TSI’s remarkable blend of high performance and ultra-low fuel consumption is Volkswagen’s all-new 105 bhp 1.2-litre TSI engine. With maximum torque of 175 Nm available all the way from 1,400 to 4,000 rpm, it offers the effortless performance of a much larger engine, without any of the downsides.
Aided by the efficiency and super-quick gear changes of the 7-speed DSG transmission, the new Golf TSI gets to 100 km/h from a standstill in only 10.2 seconds, yet it has an impressive combined fuel consumption figure of 5.0 L/100 km (20 km/L).
With the 1.2 TSI engine, Volkswagen is rounding off its range in terms of the successful TSI strategy. The new, small TSI proves that the TSI philosophy can also be used in the cost-sensitive volume segment and is the right approach for achieving ambitious performance, consumption and emissions targets.
The Golf TSI joins the Golf family in Brunei which includes the Golf 1.4 TSI, Golf GTI and new Golf R. Local motorists can now enjoy a Golf for every journey, suited to their individual lifestyles and needs.
During the launch weekend this Friday and Saturday, 26 and 27 September 2014, Volkswagen Brunei will be serving food such as hotdogs, cakes, nachos and takoyaki. There will also be a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf bar serving official beverages, a kids corner and even an ABC (ais batu campur) stand.
