From RTB: It has been 10 years since e-Government was introduced to the country and most had been focused on the infrastructure and the back end of the system. After the launch of the e-Government Startegic Plan in May 2009 the main focus for e-Government now is towards citizen centric services. According to Awang Haji Azhar, e-Government actually gives more improvement in delivering government services especially to the 3 main stakeholders comprising the citizens, businesses and civil services. In a citizen survey conducted in 2009 added the Deputy Permanent Secretary, they found out that Education services was one of the top priority that the citizens wants the government to look into. This includes suggestion that the government provides the facility for online applications including students transfer to another school, registration, and application for business licences. During the forum, Awang Haji Azhar himself and the Assistant CEO of IDA Singapore, Mr Khoong Hock Yun, CEO Infocom Federation of Brunei, Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Latiff, discussed strategies relating to how governments can connect to their citizens as well as the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network programme. Shortly thereafter, the third session continued at a luncheon keynote address with the topic of Globalization of Technology Innovation. Attending the Luncheon was the Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdullah. The Forum concluded in the afternoon with an open discussion entitled ‘At The Heart of Innovation: Delivering World Class Technology in Brunei’. The open forum discussion focused on learning and applying new technologies to businesses led by leading industry figures. The Chief Technology Officer of Oracle Asia Research and Development Centers, Mr Kevin Walsh stressed the importance of innovation particularly in a technology related company. Apart from that, Mr Walsh also touched on the process of applying ideas and the innovation factors that includes infrastructure, investment and information flow and interconnection.
