On Saturday afternoon, the Canadian High Commissioner hosted a barbecue at the Sheraton to celebrate Canada Day. The guest of honour was YB Minister of Development. It was a lovely afternoon of enjoying Canadian hospitality and of course, Canadian food!

THE Canada High Commission to Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon celebrated its Canada Day at Sheraton Utama Hotel with a barbeque event. Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar and his wife Datin Hajah Hasiah.

With regards to consular matters, Mr Sanford invited Canadians to register themselves as well as their families on ROCA (Registration of Canadian Abroad). The purpose of the registration is to assist Canadians in the event of emergencies abroad or at home. Canadians can register themselves at www.travel.gc.ca/ register.

During the event, the Canadian High Commissioner revealed that Canada would be pleased to assist in the capacity building of Brunei Darussalam not just through Foreign Direct Investment from Canadian companies but to look into new opportunities to develop within the Brunei market with other local companies.

Mr Sanford also took the opportunity to recognise the Canadian companies who were at the event such as Nations Petroleum of Culgary, Royal Bank of Canada, CIC Environmental Services, CAE of Montreal, Jerusy Perunding an environmental industries partnership involving AECOM of Vancouver, BUE Enterprise which represents Kryton Corporation of Vancouver, manufacturers of Krystol Waterproofing, SNC-Lavalin, Glamcó Aviation who represents Bell Helicopter Canada of Mirabel, Quebec and Canadian Helicopters Company of Richmond, Selective Powertech Consulting representing Claris Technology of Federation as well as Bombardier Aerospace.

Bombardier Aerospace is Canada’s premier aerospace firm headquartered in Montreal. Their aircraft will hopefully be seen flying for Royal Brunei Airlines.
