Football for a worthy cause

Posted on 18/03/2008 By Reedz

I’m not a big fan of football myself but I am always keen to support a worthy cause. Come this Saturday 22nd March, the AM Gunners will be squaring off against Sports School Football Team at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in a long-awaited Charity Match initiated by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen.

This is the second year that the event is being held by AM Gunners in collaboration with Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (BAFA) and Youth and Sports Department. In last year’s match, AM Gunners were held 1-1 by Projek Ikan Pusu U-19 team and the event raised $12,192 for charity.

HRH Prince Abdul Mateen, as a youth role model, is deeply involved in the event and played the full 90 minutes last year. HRH Prince Abdul Mateen is likely to lead his team, AM Gunners, again to take on Sports School on that night.

This year, commemorative t-shirts are being sold and people who buy either the ticket to the match or the t-shirts are eligible to enter the lucky draw. All of the proceeds collected from the sale of t-shirts and tickets will be donated equally between a number of charities, including SMARTER Brunei. Now that to me is reason enough to go on down to the stadium on Saturday night to show our support!
