40 years on…

Posted on 22/02/202410/07/2026 By Reedz

As we stand on the brink of Brunei Darussalam’s 40th National Day celebration, I find myself reflecting deeply on what this day signifies for us as a nation and for me personally. This milestone is not just a marker of time; it’s a tapestry of our collective dreams, struggles, and triumphs. Growing up in this tranquil haven, I’ve witnessed firsthand the remarkable journey of transformation our beloved country has undergone, all the while maintaining its core values and identity.

This day evokes a profound sense of pride in me. It’s a celebration of our unity, our peaceful coexistence, and the strides we’ve made in carving out a sustainable future for the generations to come. It reminds me of the quiet strength and resilience that characterizes our people, the same qualities that have propelled us forward through challenges and towards our aspirations.

Brunei may be small, but our spirit and vision are mighty. As we celebrate this 40th National Day, I am reminded of the countless conversations with fellow Bruneians, where the love for our country and optimism for its future were unmistakable. These conversations, filled with hopes and dreams, are what fuel our nation’s journey towards Vision 2035.

To me, this day is deeply personal. It’s a reflection of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re headed. It’s a time to appreciate our shared achievements while acknowledging the work that lies ahead. It’s about coming together as one community, one nation, to forge a path that ensures prosperity, sustainability, and inclusivity for all.

As we celebrate tomorrow, let’s cherish and uphold the values that make Brunei truly unique. Let’s embrace our diversity, our heritage, and our commitment to a brighter future. Here’s to celebrating not just the past 40 years, but to the many more we will see together. Happy 40th National Day, Brunei Darussalam. May our nation continue to flourish and achieve greater heights.
