Brunei’s biggest and first 24-hour race organised by Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) kicked off on November 27 and ended yesterday at 2.30pm at the Indoor Stadium Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Berakas.

The guest of honour at the event was Awang Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Abd Jalil, one of TelBru’s Board of Directors, who presented the prizes and closed the ceremony.

Also present on behalf of GHK Motors Sdn Bhd was Jake Goh, Director of Goh Hock Kee Motors Sdn Bhd.

With a total of almost 400 teams, two racers drove for the duration of 24 hours in search for a series of clues and challenges in the three districts – Brunei Muara, Tutong and Kuala Belait.

In the challenge, the racers must finish all pit stop areas and strive to collect the highest points possible in order to win the race.

Lim Ming Soon, the General Manager of TelBru in his closing speech said the Let’s Drive event was one of TelBru’s efforts in maintaining good rapport and relationship with its valued customers.

"The event was also aimed at promoting local tourism in partnership with Brunei Tourism Board. Apart from that, racers also got the chance to explore the ultimate driving adventure in Brunei Darussalam," he said.

During the event, racers were also exposed to TelBru’s Let’s Give Back Campaign that aims at giving back to various charities across the country. The campaign had started in February.

In this campaign, TelBru has already given back to 11 different charities in the span of 11 months. More importantly, part of the proceeds from the Let’s Drive campaign will be donated to charity bodies in the country. Moreover, among the objectives of this campaign is to create more awareness to the public on charities in Brunei Darussalam that might need voluntary services, donations and facilities.

The winners of Let’s Drive Race were Edie Zuriaddy Ariffin bin Haji Zainal Abidin and Hjh Siti Fazriana Hj Noordin. The winners drove home a Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 auto.

Meanwhile, second place winners Pg Saiful Khalid bin Pengiran Yunus and Md Sanusi Hj Mahari won return air tickets to Kuala Lumpur with access to watch Sepang Formula One.

Third place was won by Abu Huzaifah bin Julaihi and Md Danny bin Aimi who won return air tickets to Kuala Lumpur with access to watch KL Motorshow.

Apart from the race, members of the public also got the chance to see live performances by Maria, The Seeds, A Band Once, Relentless Entertainment, showcase of latest car models from GHK, Sin Hup Huat Meguiar’s activities. Also participating in the activities were KNK partners including Pan Bright Travel Services, Freme Travel Services and the Holiday Lodge Hotel. — Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
