Lumix LX3 Test Drive

Posted on 20/09/200808/05/2019 By Reedz

I’ve been looking out for a little range-finder style camera to substitute for Elektra during those times when discretion is required. After comparing the Canon G9, the Fujifilm F100FD, the Ricoh GX200, and most recently, the Lumix LX3, I finally decided on the latter.

The LX3 comes with comprehensive manual controls and a fast, ultrawide F2.0-F2.8 24-60mm (35mm equivalent) Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens. Images are captured on a 1/1.63-inch CCD sensor sporting 10.1 million effective pixels.

A solid camera perfect for those official functions or discrete food reviews, or even for going walkabout. Here are some shots from my gerai ramadhan walkabout earlier today. Panasonic have made some bold claims about the LX3, stating that it offers “the highest image quality in compact camera history”. I’m beginning to agree πŸ™‚

No doubts on the quality of Leica lens. The metering however seems a little disappointing

I have been using a LX3 for a week now, and I have to agree: this is a great photography instrument for those who expect more from the compact cameras. Not an all-purpose tool, but excellent where it matters: handling, image quality, dynamic range, colors, noise control. Couldn’t be happier with my new camera.

  17. anakbrunei says:
    23/09/2008 at 8:46 am

haha tina, the G1, tempting as it seems, does not come with a built in f2.0 leica lens! Also, it somehow wouldn’t fit in my trouser pocket lah! heheheh!
