Autism Awareness Road Show

In conjunction with World Autism Awareness Day held on 2nd April 2008, SMARTER Brunei, Child Development Centre of the Ministry of Health and Special Education Unit (UPK) of the Ministry of Education is organizing an ‘Autism Awareness Road Show’ during the month of April 2008.

The ‘Autism Awareness Road Show’ show held in the Mall, Gadong in Bandar Seri Begawan on the 6th April 2008 is the second venue of the road show. Exhibits included a sensory integration enclosure and other sensory equipment that is used for therapy of individuals with Autism to regulate their sensory arousal levels.

The road show will be held next at Soon Lee Megamart Pandan, Kuala Belait at 10am on the 13th April 2008, then on to Dewan Pahlawan, Berakas Garrison, Ministry of Defence at 2.30pm on the 18th April 2008 and Hua Ho Petani Mall, Tutong at 10am on the 20th April 2008.

The autism awareness campaign finale will be the SMARTER fund raising ‘7-Hill Charity Challenge’ which will be held on the 27th April 2008. The challenge is to complete all seven hill climbing routes in continuous succession in one day. The event will officially start at 7am at Taman Peranginan Tasek Lama followed by hills at Taman Rekreasi Markuching, Taman Rekreasi Hutan Bukit Subok, Bukit Pancaran Subok, Bukit Kg. Mentiri, Taman Rekreasi Hutan Simpan Berakas and finally ending at Taman Rekreasi Hutan Shahbandar at 4pm.

Three hundred participants joined SMARTER for the 5-Hill Challenge last year 2007 and forty-nine climbers manage to complete the climbs for all five hills. With the increased publicity of World Autism Awareness Day in the media this year, SMARTER has targeted to raise $70,000 in funds and hopes to see 700 climbers join us and complete the “7-Hill Charity Challenge” on the 27th April 2008.

  • Although it is possible to register on the morning of 27th April but we would prefer you register in advance to ensure smooth logistic arrangements.

  • T Shirt is available at $12.00 each – can do booking as well in advance
  • Participants have to use thier own transport from one hill to the next
  • Drinking water will be provided at the base of each hill.

    Thanks again I hope your awareness about your own arousal level is also increasing. Child with Autism is not naughty kid who refuse to behave and a child with autism do not have temper tantrum. Only naughty kid have temper tantrum and need disciplining.
    Come join us at the next venue and learn more about Autism.
