The Art of Softness…

Posted on 25/01/200825/01/2008 By Reedz

That’s what Ju jitsu (also spelled as jujutsu, jujitsu, jiu jitsu, jiu jutsu, jitsu, jutsu) literally means. It is a fascinating martial art developed around the principle of using an attacker’s energy against him, rather than directly opposing it.

This morning I was treated to a display of this principle at a training class conducted by an internationally acclaimed 1st 4th Dan Black belt in Goshindo Jujutsu, Maul Mornie, who conducts training all over the world. Here’s the best bit… Maul is a Seria boy like myself, and I happily discovered this morning that he’s the nephew of my deputy channel manager on #Brunei IRC 😀

In fact, today was his last class in Brunei before he leaves for a four week martial arts seminar tour of Europe. I will be interviewing Maul shortly about his journey to becoming the martial arts expert that he is today. In the meantime, here are some of the pics from this morning’s session:

I have had the pleasure of meeting Maul on two occasions now and his skill level and knowledge of body and blade mechanics is unsurpassed in my book. I would urge any true martial artist to see what he has to offer you. He showcases Bruneis rich martial arts heritage and sets a fine example of Brunei culture and humility.
